Construction & Remodeling in Fircrest, WA

Quality remodels and careful additions in Fircrest's close-knit established neighborhoods.

Fircrest is one of the smallest incorporated towns in Washington — about 1.3 square miles tucked inside the greater Tacoma urban area — and it carries the feel of a neighborhood that has settled into itself. Streets are tree-lined, lots are modest, and the housing stock runs toward mid-century colonials and ramblers that have been maintained and improved over generations. Homeowners here tend to know their neighbors and take the look and feel of their properties seriously.

That means remodeling work in Fircrest is often detail-oriented: kitchen and bath updates where craftsmanship shows, additions that match the existing roofline and exterior character, and occasional DADU projects on the lots that can support them. We approach every Fircrest project with the same care the neighborhood expects.

Permits & zoning

Building in Fircrest

Permit authority in Fircrest is the Town of Fircrest. Despite being physically surrounded by Tacoma and sharing a zip code with some Tacoma addresses, Fircrest is its own incorporated town with its own permit office. Building permits — remodels, additions, new construction, and ADUs — route through Town of Fircrest, not the City of Tacoma and not Pierce County PALS.

Fircrest is a GMA-planning jurisdiction and is subject to HB 1337 (RCW 36.70A.680). That means two ADUs per lot are allowed in the Urban Growth Area, no owner-occupancy requirement applies, and the Town cannot restrict ADU floor area below 1,000 sq ft. Conversion of existing detached structures to ADU use must be allowed even where setbacks do not fully comply with current code. Impact fees for ADUs are capped at 50% of principal-unit rates.

Given the town's small size and limited lot dimensions, not every parcel will have the square footage to support a full detached cottage — lot coverage limits are a real constraint here. We'll assess your specific parcel at the site walk before recommending a DADU path. For some Fircrest properties, an attached ADU or an interior conversion produces a better outcome than a full detached unit. Fircrest does not operate a historic district or design-review overlay affecting standard residential work. DADU applications tend to follow the 4–8 week cadence that HB 1337 requires across Washington planning jurisdictions. DSHS-related AFH compliance work permits through the Town of Fircrest under the standard DSHS plan-review coordination process.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in Fircrest?+
Yes. Fircrest is inside our primary service area. We do bathroom and kitchen remodels, home additions, and occasional DADU projects in the town. Call or fill out the quote form — we'll schedule a free site walk.
Who issues permits in Fircrest — Tacoma or the Town itself?+
The Town of Fircrest has its own permit office. Despite sharing geography and zip codes with Tacoma, Fircrest is independently incorporated. We submit to the Town directly, not to the City of Tacoma.
Can I add a DADU in Fircrest?+
Possibly. HB 1337 applies, so the Town must allow it — but Fircrest's small lot sizes mean coverage limits are a real factor. Some parcels won't support a full detached unit. We'll check your lot dimensions and coverage math at the site walk before recommending a path.
Are you licensed to work in Fircrest?+
Yes. WA State License PEAKC**762PS, bonded and insured. We pull all permits in our own name and carry general liability and workers' comp on every project. We've worked in the greater Tacoma area — including Fircrest — for over 10 years.
